How to Look at an Unfixed Form, steel, sandbags, glass, iron oxide liquor, ice screen (refreshed daily), poem presented as 35mm slideshow, reproductions of Frederic Edwin Church’s Study for an Iceberg (1856) as dye transfer print on satin and as 35mm slide. 60 x 60 x 72’, 2022.
Durational elements: the ice screen melts in approximately 2 hours and the slideshow repeats every 5 minutes. The melting ice from the screen is captured in glasses, to be refrozen each evening. In the suspended glass bottles, the iron oxide liquor slowly evaporates, causing the counterbalanced sandbag to sink gradually. The steel frame, polished once when fabricated, will continue to accumulate rust through repeated installations.
